Welcome!

Welcome to my little enclave in this world, where I hoard my prized recording collection. The articles from 2000 and earlier started off as ‘reviews’ on The Flying Inkpot Classical Music Reviews, but later on I realised that they became essays that shared my delights and disappointments rather than critical reviews of CDs on the market. Hence, I migrated these ‘reviews’ over here, and now, after more than half a decade, am embarking on a journey to comment on the rest of my recordings.

I am chronicling my views on the musicality of these great performances and recordings, so the world will not forget about them, and (hopefully) come to appreciate them as I do. As is painfully evident (acoustically painful because of the static), I am very fond of ‘historic’ recordings from the so-called ‘Golden Age’ of pianists, so I tend to compare everything (and everyone) else to them.

Unfortunately almost all of these pianists have passed on; but fortunately for us, many of their recordings have survived. In spite of the horrendous surviving state of many of these recordings, they are still solid testaments to the epic individuality and monumental musicality seldom seen in many modern-day performers.
